Excellent article, Lori. The most important thing I used to start with when I used to have clients addicted to ex-lax (another career ago), was that laxatives stimulate the area nearest the colon, after most calories have been absorbed anyway. Not to say that there are good ways and bad ways to have an eating disorder, but that stopping a self-induced misuse of meds is an important first step.
