Appalling Ad

An advertisement that doesn't attract me

Advertisers create ad campaigns to attract our attention- but some grab mine the wrong way.

See the picture at the link above that inspired this article. If you can't view it, it's an image of a woman strapped to a big red and white target. There's a man in the foreground throwing knives at her and the caption reads, "BETTER BE ACCURATE." What is being advertised? A blood glucose meter for diabetic people.

I really believe we need to find a better way to sell products than using attractive women as "targets" to draw attention. This certainly isn't the worst ad I've ever seen, but it deserves a mention for its blatant irrelevance to the product being sold.

I hate even drawing more attention to the bad ones, but I just had to share this one. I do try to look at advertisements objectively, but they do hit a personal note sometimes. Unfortunately, that's because they work.

I'd love to get your feedback on this one. Fire off your opinions in the discussion forum below. Seen any offensive ads lately?
